A Romantic Wedding at A Private Farm in Virginia

Step inside this gorgeous Real Wedding featured in Volume 5 of Wine & Country Weddings. Andrew & Maria’s celebration brimmed with Southern charm and gracious touches throughout—all wrapped in soft, soothing shades of blue, white and green complemented with a hint of pink.

Everywhere guests looked, they could see hints of the couple. Everything from their cultural roots down to the delicate details of Maria’s dress had an impact on the overall feel of their special day, making it truly unique and personal.

A double-Hoo, Maria met Andrew at the University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business. Ever the romantic, Andrew was so smitten with Maria that he changed his post-graduation plans to move to Atlanta with her. It was love, through and through, and continues to be evident post-wedding. When Andrew proposed, he did so with a gorgeous painting of the stunning solid emerald cut ring that his friend had custom-made made for the momentous occasion.

Although Maria is from Danville, Virginia, and Andrew is from Michigan, the couple knew they wanted an outdoor wedding in the Charlottesville area. Once they had settled on the venue, Maria drew inspiration from the greenery and natural, romantic colors on the property. To add to the soft green surroundings, a blush and neutral palette was selected, with soft blues pulled in for classic context. The gentle color palette highlighted the romance of the venue, bringing out its organic beauty.

In September, the details came together for the elegant and relaxing evening. For the reception, the couple utilized a highly customized lighting plan to make the entire space sparkle with romance, including large pendants over the head table, a chandelier over the dance floor and bistro-lit lounge spaces scattered about.

As guests entered the tented reception space, they were welcomed with custom-made place cards accompanied with simple, varying greenery, another tie-in to the natural beauty of the farm venue.

Drawing inspiration from Andrew’s Italian roots and Maria’s Cuban heritage, the reception featured homemade limoncello from Andrew’s grandmother and a Cuban cigar bar for guests to enjoy throughout the night. For dinner, the couple settled with a blend of Italian- and Cuban-styled foods. A popular choice for Italian cuisine local to Virginia is featured at Barboursville Vineyards’ Palladio Restaurant which features authentic dishes to pull you and your guests’ palates right to the Tuscan countryside.

To help capture an essence of ease and seamlessness, the band played throughout the evening’s events. And when the guests’ feet began to ache from dancing, they could relax on one of the stylishly placed love seats.

Inspiration also stemmed from Maria’s uniquely graceful wedding dress. The A-line style gown flattered Maria perfectly, and the see-through straps only added to its all-around elegance. The floral, appliqué overlay was the inspiration for the linens on the cake table, where a similar appliqué made for stunning photographs while the couple was cutting the cake.

Andrew & Maria’s day is one they can call their own, as countless personal and cultural touches were seen throughout the celebration. It was beneath the gorgeous Virginia sky that they came together surrounded by the people they love most. ~
