Theirs is a love story for the ages. Guilherme and Kris met through a mutual friend in 2014 while playing the online video game League of Legends. Though they lived far away from each other, they exchanged phone numbers and began talking and texting seriously in 2016. They made the effort to game together every day despite the time difference between them. Guilherme confessed to Kris that September and the two officially started their long-distance relationship. A year later, Kris decided to take the leap and move to Virginia to be with Guilherme. In 2021, Guilherme gathered family and friends together to throw a surprise engagement party and propose to Kris, and the rest is history.

Choosing a garden setting was the perfect choice for this couple, Kris & Guilherme, who especially loved the Blue Ridge Mountain views at The Market at Grelen.

Shades of green accented this classic wedding creating a cohesive palette with nature. We particularly love the green bow ties with the grooms’ custom tuxedos.

For the wedding, Guilherme and Kris wore tuxedos–Kris in black, Guilherme in white.

Kris picked up the trend of opting for an outfit change at the reception, sporting a white and gold Vietnamese áo dài in homage to his Vietnamese heritage.

Customized Wedding Details

Custom tuxes for the two grooms looked stunning and there was something special on the interior too.

The liner of the jackets was a custom fabric printed with pictures from their engagement photoshoot. Of course, Sage the cat featured as well.

A Wedding in Shades of Green

Sage green pervades the couple’s life, often as a happy accident. Their home is sage green and green is also Guilherme’s favorite color. Kris’s favorite color is yellow, so their wedding colors were sage green and gold.

Originally the couple were planning to avoid a traditional wedding and get married at a courthouse, but one look at the venue at the Market at Grelen put an end to that idea.

“It wasn’t until we saw The Market at Grelen, where we were absolutely stunned,” Kris said. “It was absolutely beautiful and all of the feelings and emotions came rushing in! I could just see the two of us getting married there and we knew it was the place!”

They chose a very minimalist theme with loose foliage and taper candles, keeping the florals more subtle to avoid overt femininity.

They loved working with Annette from Lacy’s Florists and still keep their boutonnieres and Sage’s customized collar in a keepsake box at home.

Making Your Wedding Personal to You

Guests received mini fans for the ceremony that had Kris and Guilherme’s relationship timeline printed on them. Even the custom bar sign featured Sage the cat and custom cocktails named after her.

From the flower girl’s basket, borne by Kris’s youngest sister, to the delicious brigadeiros and the cake to the flowers, shades of green permeated all the details of this wedding celebration. The two grooms had custom brigadeiros, a Brazilian sweet they gave as favors, customized with their initials and pictures of their cat, as an extra special touch for their wedding day.

Incorporating Your Cat into a Wedding

Kris’s rescue cat Sage is an essential part of their family. She and Guilherme adore each other, and she even sleeps on his side of the bed. Kris & Guilherme included their beloved feline fur baby in their wedding day as the ring bearer. Sporting a bow tie and the rings, Sage stole the show!

Later, guests enjoyed custom cocktails created in their kitty’s honor. It is a popular trend to include pets in your wedding and it is happening often in Virginia Wine Country wedding celebrations.

Kris & Guilherme’s Happily Ever After
